On this Blog entry I will summarise what I usually do on a daily basis. Some things are the same everyday and other things depend on the day.

Over the last few weeks I have been working on an exhibition about the South African author Richard Rive, who got his PhD from Magdalen College in the 1970s.

Term started this week. All the Undergraduates had to attend a library induction. Usually they would get a tour of the Library but because of COVID that wasn't possible. We had about 20 inductions. I was able to help with it. I observed the first few and then presented 2-3 slides of the PowerPoint. After some start difficulties I became more confident and it was a lot of fun.

During the last few days, I was working on an Excel sheet, where I had to write down every book or manuscript that was displayed at an exhibition in the past 13 years. I started this list last week and finished today, all in all there are over 250 books and manuscript that were shown in exhibitions in either the Old Library or the Longwall Library.

There are a total of five libraries that belong to the Magdalen College. The main one is the Longwall-Library, it has all different kinds of topics. Magdalen has specialist libraries as well: The Old Library: early printed and manuscript book collection The Law Library: contemporary reference-only law books and journals The Daubeny Library: nineteenth-century scientific books The McFarlane Library: medieval-history subject collection. I got to visit them and they are all so interesting.

Over the weekend I had settled in, my then the Internship started September 1st. After a warm welcome from my colleges, I got a tour of the Longwall-Library which was renovated from 2014-2016. It looks so beautiful now and I was very excited to see all floors of it. The library has a total of 4 floors. The books are classified with DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification). It was really interesting seeing all different books and topics. Sometimes you could spot really old books between newer ones.
